Why are British men traditionally short, stocky, broad shoulders and wide footed?

I know there is some people who are British and tall. But people in the working class, generally short, powerful and wide footed. The upper class seem to be tall and slim. Also Italian men seem to be short and stocky. And Spanish men seem to be tall and slim. And how many times have people in shoe shops said that British men have broad feet. Is there some genetic reason for this or is it just a coincidence

I'm guessing it's a bit of genetics, culture, and the environment that we live in, as well as diet, lifestyle etc

It's called genetics.  It most likely was caused from survival of the fittest if you believe in such things.  The shorter stockier people could work better without injury and could preform more work.  It were those types that got together, got married and had children.  Again just my theory for what it's worth.
