  1. For us mexicans it didn't go well, it is a complete failure.

  2. Canada, the U.S, and Mexico are pretty much the only countries in north america. That concludes the geography lesson. As for your other questions;yes, yes and yes. Some standard of living has in proved as more goods are available at lower cost, some tension has been created-some jobs appear to have been lost, and the rate of job creation is less then expected. As per the links provided some conflict resolution has occurred, or at least the number of trade disputes between the affected countries has decreased.

  3. I´m Mexican living ang working in Mexico,

The answer above tells you the intension of free trade in north america.

But I´ll tell you the story here south  of the border,

When I was a kid all cars that were sold in Mexico were made in Mexico.. But we only had like 4 models for every brand of car, (Ford, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Nissan and VW) and i don´t mean assambled..I mean more than 80% of the car and its parts by law was forced to be made in Mexico..

Then Nafta came and the  car industry experimented a boom,

the industry went from 350,000 units sold every year within the country to 1000,000 sold a year in less than 5 years since nafta started, we got now more than 15 brands of cars that comes from all over the world  and we export something like 500,000 cars a year...

In the super-markets food from the USA and Canada invaded the shells, lots of products started to invaded the mexican apparel shops...One in particular chance the way  we eat.....cup a nuddle..this microwave nuddle soup is competing with tortilla as the main food item in mexican diet!!!.

In the negative side lot of industries stall and even went to bankrupcy, electronics, chocolats and candy, toy manufacturers went broke..

The Agro had a big collapse, since the US, and Canada have heavy subsidies in certain crops, the mexican farm could´nt support the competition, and  stop harvesting corn wheat  and other type of crops and started to fled out of the country to the USA....

I think that free trade is good, but certain sectors will always want to close the borders again since not everything is a win-win situation.

  4. Removing trade barriers has proven to be prosperous for N.A.F.T.A  Countries.

Companies in Canada for example can buy products from America in parts for assembly in Canada duty free.

Example a complete car engine bought in the US and brought into Canada would taxed heavily. Reason: Canada makes car engines and gives Canadians jobs.

If a Canadian buys all the parts in the U.S.they are duty free because Canadians get jobs.

Like so Mexico had very high tax and though that was the best way to go.  (Protectionist)

Now an American company can move here and import a high percentage of the parts to make automobiles(for example)

tax free and for providing jobs for Mexicans The Americans get access to the lucrative 110 million people market as well as taking those car to Canada or U.S

It is not wide open. Canadians are very protective of the booze and cigarettes.

That is the jist of the N.A.F.T.A. agreement.

Wikipedia should have some facts for you.
