im SO glad its summer, i could hardly survive the winter it was so cold that we had to get off school for a week just because the weather was so cold it could give you extreme frost bite if you didnt dress warmly, so why arte they colder than winters in mexico and the U.S.

  1. I've been reading that the reason Canadian winters are colder than elsewhere in North America is because we are closer to the north pole. While, technically, true, that's somewhat of an oversimplification.

Our geography is such that a lot of our landmass is not too near many large bodies of water which would moderate temperatures. The warm moist air sitting on top of the Gulf of Mexico certainly helps to moderate temperatures in the winter but the effect diminishes over distance. This is why places like Toronto tend not to be as cold as places like Baker Lake.

As for your experiences, it's a little disconcerting to read that you missed a week of school because of the cold. Frostbite and hypothermia are always concerns. The answer there is to dress for conditions. In other words, suck it up.

  2. you are closer to the pole meaning in the winter you are at a greater angle relative to the direction of light coming from the sun meaning that you get less light and hence less energy

take a flashlight and shine it straight down, that shine it at an angle of 30 degrees, that is basically the same principle

  3. The farther a country is from the equator, means it will be colder, and as Canada is significantly more distant from the equator compared to the US and Mexico, that is why it is much colder...

  4. because

  5. Further away from the eqautor and close to the North pole than the U.S. and Mexico. Same reason why some U.S. states have cold winters and the Southern ones don't. Also perhaps not as much global warnming over Canada since the U.S. has had warmer or (not as cold) Winters the past years could play a small part in it.

  6. because canada is closer to north pole.
