Why are Cheltenham watering?

Why are Cheltenham watering? We’ve had so many meetings abandoned or run on heavy ground it seems strange that they need to start watering especially if it starts raining again.

Watering starts today because the ground at Prestbury Park drying out and the track always drains particularly well. The ground is said to be good to soft, good in places on the chase and hurdles track, with the cross-country course good to soft, soft in places and they want to keep it that way and a dry week is forecast.
