Why are Chinese players referred to by their first name on the scoreboard?

At the televised stages of Snooker, why are Chinese players referred to by their first name on the scoreboard, unlike all the others who are represented by their surname? I notice it doesn't happen with players from other Asian countries either. (Eg, Marco Fu is always "Fu".)

Chinese names always start with the family name/surname. The next 2 words are the person's name. The name will always carry a specific meaning to represent the desired trait(s) the child will hv when s/he grows up. The boys will have their names to denote strength, power, heroism etc. The girls will have their names to denote beauty, gentleness, gracefulness, flowers etc

Now, in choosing the actual name, usually the 2nd character after the surname wld  represent the generation. So, eg all brothers and all their 1st male cousins wld share the same 2nd character. The 3rd character wld be added to the 2nd to form the desired meaning/trait as explained above. Of course there are families who use the 3rd word for the generation reference instead.

In purely informal/affectionate address just the 3rd character is used to call the person. eg Ding Junhui will  be called just h*i or Ah h*i by his family members/relatives or close friends.

Chinese names are backward to the way the western world uses names.  In China, the family name comes first, and the given (more familiar) name comes second.  Many Asian countries have westernized their names to avoid confusion, but choose to use their name in the more familiar version while at home.

I guess some people don't realise that the Chinese always put their surname before their first name. Hence, they think the surname is FU when in fact it is Marco
