I am curious as to why the clouds appear lower in Texas than they do in India.

  1. You're probably at vastly different altitudes... only answer I could think of.

  2. Probably different types of clouds.  Texas varies in altitude from a few feet above sea level near the coast to 470 feet at Dallas to over 3000 feet at Lubbock and more north in the panhandle.   Clouds may be low, middle or very high and may include Cumulus which run from 8-10,000 feet all the way up to 35,000-40,000 feet.

India is strongly influenced by the monsoon rains which my brief experience in Thailand seemed to be higher and more level than the thunder storms of Texas.   Most of India, except for the far north, seems to be well under 1000 feet per a quick scan with Google Earth.

  3. Are you basing this on an extended period of observations in much of India, or on a day or two of viewing the sky in one location in India or Texas?  I mean, you may travel to India and see high cloud coverage for a weekend, but that doesn't mean they don't see other types of clouds throughout the year.  India will see the monsoonal cloud coverage of CBs just like SE Texas does with similar cloud heights.

It shouldn't make a difference in the grand scheme of things.  Cloud heights vary from day to day anywhere in the world, you may just be seeing a local effect in one of the locations.
