Why are East Asian people so non-confrontational?

I have a friend who is an east Asian and he is sort of cowardly. At parties he is too shy to approach women. If I get mad at him, he refuses to say anything. They also study all the time. I've noticed that other ones are like that too. Is this true? Have any of you noticed this.

Why are Western people so direct and confrontational? Who knows? It's just cultural differences. We are taught to live what our society places value on, and saving face is one of the traits of East Asian culture.

Less testosterone is the main reason. However they more than make up for it in intelligence, life spans etc.

This may be a cultural thing only countries like America advocatee violence and negativity.  They also have different spiritual beliefs and they meditate alot.

he's a buddhist and you should respect his manners, you ignorant socialite.   he's your friend right ?  i'm thai,  i don't get mad , it causes stress.  peaceful people live longer and are very wise.  they don't just think outside the box, they also see what everbody is thinking outside the box.

so go ahead and get angry,  your friend is worry free and goes to bed in peace.

If that were true the Vietnamese and Cambodians would get along a lot better. And China wouldn't be such a Du*** towards the Tibetans. And do I need to mention the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

I have friends and family from there and they are the total opposite of what you described. Like in any country and culture you have mellow people, confrontational people, and confrontational people.

asians are not cowardly by any measure, not more than anyone else... but we tend to be more introverts, just a social tendency thing, and part of our nature.. and what's wrong with being the smartest?

From my experience, this is not true. All except one of the East-Asian people I know, God bless their hearts, are always screaming and starting trouble. I haven't noticed this at all.

Dude, it doesn't only apply to East Asians but to all people regardless of race. Its not a non-confrontational but its just an act of him being refined & patient with you whenever you get mad at him. Its such a waste of time dealing with all those silly things. With regards to his timidness to approach women, maybe he's not ready for some flirting & he must have several reasons not to approach women. Just because you encounter one or a few other Asians like that doesn't mean you have to single out all East Asian people.

I notice a lot also. East Asians from my experience tend to be shyer, quieter, more reserved, clean, peaceful, and relatively timid.
