Ebay have recently started trying to force UK users to use Ebay when selling goods, are people in the UK aware that they tried to do this in Australia and failed as the government investigated and decided it was anti competitive. According to an official government source, " eBay’s attempts to force Australian users to exclusively use their PayPal payments system for all transactions has now been abandoned following protests and an investigation by the Australian competition commission"

  1. Why are eBay doing this?

...because they can. eBay are number one in the market for online auctions. Number two is currently so far behind it doesn't matter. Sure people will get annoyed at being forced to choose a particular payment method - but will this be enough to persuade them to change to another auction site (with less traffic). I doubt it.

  2. Looks like I won't be able to participate then - I told Paypal to get stuffed on Friday!

  3. Sorry, did you mean that Ebay have started trying to force uk users to use PAYPAL when selling goods ?

    If so that's just wrong.

Paypal once stole 200 quid out my brothers account. They took the money out but didn't pay it to anyone and eventually, after a long fight, paid it back !

  4. I recently listed some items on ebay and you now must add Paypal.

Move to eBID - it's a lot cheaper....here is part of an email I received from ebid today.....

    SELLERS......

        *  List for Free on eBid. There are NO Listing Fees.

        * Pay no Final Value Fees with the "Free" auction format.

        * Use the eBid Spreadsheet to upload thousands of items at once.

        * Sign up to PPPay.com to allow your buyers to pay for your items immeditaley.

    * Use "Auto Extend" to allow your auction to extend if a bidding war is going on.

(Ebay is a ripoff - for sellers.....they have recently reduced the listing fee but added it on to the final value fee.  Do they think we're stupid!!)

  5. i hate ebay now!!!

  6. For some reason I have been selling 4 products for the past year and get fee's of £4 per item and an additional £8 or so for each one that sells, this is a complete rip off seeing as the product is only about £70.

I signed up to BigCrumbs and get 27% cashback on each purchase I make on eBay now as I also purchase quite a bit so it sort of helps out a bit more:

  7. It's not just the UK ebay is ripping everyone off and US congress was all financed by crooked business such as this. I guess they think they can do it all over the world now.

  8. It's totally wrong.

But it's their rules and their site - no-one is forced to use eBay.
