Why are England so c**p at their own sport? (Football)?

And let's face it, how many of those "english" players come from Africa?

You didn't even qualify for Euro? You're NOT going to win the world cup, I know you have a big ego as a country but face it your football team, is c**p.

The team is c**p, true, but the individual players are quite impressive.  The problem is that they play like individual players rather then as team mates.

Part luck, part free-market of the English Premier League.  Winning a World Cup or Euro tournament requires skill and luck.  How many times have the English lost because of penalty kicks or a red card?  England arguably has the best league (we know it's the richest league), but the EPL is a free market.  There are no foreign player limits so a club is not forced to start so many English players.  It's great for competition but not so great for English development.

Lastly, the EPL is played under cooler weather and all English players play in the EPL (except for Beckham).  The World Cup is held in the summertime.  It's possible this hinders England's chances in the World Cup because they're not used to hot and humid weather like someone in Brazil or Italy.

As for the USA, football is the 5th most popular team sport after American football, baseball, basketball and ice hockey.  Then you add individual sports like tennis, track & field and golf.  Add the lack of coaching talent at the local level and a fairly new professional league in MLS (12 years old).  This waters down the football talent coming out of the USA.  

There is more talent coming out of the USA, but it will take much more time to come close to Europe and South America.

For those hating on USA: When England beat the USA a few months ago, we didn't start half our great players and both goals (2-0) were scored on our second string defense and keeper....

England is 12th because they havn't played in anything to lowers their position. USA is 28th because, again, when we went to COPA America in 2007, we played with a second string team. Before that we were in the top 10.......

For the asker: Italy sucks. Did you see any of the Euros? Defending world champions, yes, but not for much longer. If it weren't for Buffon's penalty save against Romania, they wouldn't have made it past the group stage. FYI.

because sadly as we have the best leauge in the world (the premiership) we attract the best player to play on our shores and that means paying big money   and so to cut a long story short all our players want is £££ and they forget that wearing a national shirt is all about pride so they don't  bother to play very well

unaccustomed as i am to leaping to the defence of the english, i have to say that 15th in the world rankings is hardly c**p by anyones standards.

i dont know where you are from but lets have a wild stab in the dark (which is what you would probably get if you said that in a london pub) and assume its the USA. You are 28th in the world and even allowing for the fact that most of you dont even know how to play football... its still pretty poor for a nation with such a huge population.

We're not c**p, we're just confused.

On paper we have one of the best teams in the world with some of the best players in the world: Lampard, Terry, Ferdinand, Gerrard.

But no one knows how to utilise all this talent into a super team.
