  1. Who said they are bad???

Don't look now, but I'm sure you're already been eating plenty of GMO and didn't know it.  What is there, 3,000 different products made from corn?  And there's plenty of GMO corn...and soybeans?  Plenty of RoundupReady beans and I'm sure you've eaten things with soybean oil.  Don't try canola oil, most of it's RoundupReady also.  Are you dead yet?  Hmmm, must not be so bad after all....

  2. I will not necessarily say that everytin bout GMOs r bad but i am definately not a fan. Well i have been exposed to significant knowledge of GMOs through my study years and readings. I think environmentally concern people like me felt unsecure with the future effects of GMOs products to environment as a whole and to us human generally. I think that there is no thorough research yet of the effects of GMOs especially for the long term consumption of it. Come on genetically modified does seem uneasy for me. Well cancer is also some kind of genetically modified sel doesnt it? I think that people just jump on it since it seems, yeah it seems that it is the saviour of world hunger for the future but silently there is some negs effects of it somewhere. More resilient and hardy pest for example..And what if by that time we are not able to find any solution as good as GMOs? Then what? Time will be the judge of that anyway. I still prefer sustainability. Respect the mother nature and she will respect us back and give us more! ..And also basically people who promotes these GMOs very loudly i assume will have some or high economical benefits behind it...

  3. not all gmo's are bad.  but take "starlink corn". they put a gene from an almond in it ( i forget the benefit, i never grew it ).  then after it had been grown commercially a few years they found out that people that were allergic to almonds couldnt eat it.  big problem!  how were consumers supposed to know which corn products contained starlink corn?  they couldnt.  im not totally against gmo's but i think the companies developing them and the usda are careless with them.  gmo's are getting released before we know all the facts.

  4. Only at school?...Kids shouldn't be eating that GMO S**t, anywhere!

You've done the reseach. GMOs are bad news. I agree.

  5. Genetically Modified Organisms aren't necessarily bad.

Technically, every domesticated plant has been genetically modified from a wild plant.

Modern GM is a process to accelerate the appearance desirable traits in an organism, such as corn, rice and soybeans.  Without GM, it could take years or decades to breed such characteristics into a plant.

Prior to the current GM programs, man would (and still does) utilize plant breeding to produce a plant with desirable traits.  Much of this breeding would capitalize on genetic mutations or recessive genes present in the plant.  Breeding is simply a form of genetic transfer.

For example, modern corn only remotely resembles the plant it was developed from.  The original plants were much smaller and have considerably smaller yields. Through breeding (i.e., genetic transfer),  man developed corn/maize into a plant with high yields.  To my knowledge there hasn't been any screaming or bad press about this genetic modification.

With modern techniques, desirable traits can be introduced into a plant to further increase yields, increase nutrients, increase defenses against pests, decrease water demands or increase temperature tolerances without decades of breeding. All the above would be especially desirable to third-world farmers.

GM food has been present in the Human food chain for several years.  GM corn has been fed to animals for years. These same animals were later consumed by humans.

It would be desirable to have some research to ensure the GM food won't adversely affect the consumer.  However, there are already many non-GM foods marketed that can have adverse affects to consumers (i.e., peanuts). So if GM food is found to be safe for the general populace, I wouldn't have a problem.

  6. GMO's are great, anyone who tells you otherwise hasn't done their research.

Bt corn/cotton alone have drastically reduced environmental pollution,  increased yields and saved farmers money.

Golden rice has the potential to save the sight of millions in the developing world.

  7. It is meant for the growth of the plants but I am not sure about its healthy content

  8. GM crops are not bad, they just get a lot of bad publicity from activist groups like Greenpeace. They allow the weed free growth of crops with the use of much less herbicides than were being used before GM crops. They also make it possible to use no-till and/or minimum tillage to produce crops which is very environment friendly.

I would feed them to my own children without any doubts at all.

Having said this, I must say I think people should be able to choose the food that they and their children eat. Some people are afraid of GM food.  Feeding GM crops at school is, in a way force feeding all the children to eat it, since they have no alternative. So, my personal feelings about GM crops aside, they should not the used in school lunches.

  9. Genetic modification is the same as selective breeding just much faster, placing the right gene where its needed instead of waiting for it to evolve that way. Safe as always
