  1. They're important because, as an educator, you have to remember that everyone learns differently.  Everyone has different strengths, and a great teacher teaches in a way that reaches people who are stronger in different ways.

You can't, for example, assume that everyone's the traditional logical or verbal-smart, and teach in a way that's 100% reliant on logic or words.  Some people who do well with kinesthetic or musical smarts, for example, might learn better by moving around or learning things in a lyrical format.

  2. Because it helps us to realize that we are not all alike;we don't all learn best when information is verbal. It helps us, in the classroom, to realize that the child who is struggling to read might be absolutely brilliant in interpersonal skills, or visual skills,or music, or nature.  It allows us to understand why we need to teach using multiple modalities.  It helps every child to succeed.

  3. SO, SO SO important. I was doing bad in school, and took a College Study Skills Course and it has saved my life. The entire course reviewed Gardner's multiple intelligences, and demonstrated how to analyze and identify your best way of learning. Different people, different ways the brain works.

The book assigned for the class was PRACTICING COLLEGE LEARNING STRATEGIES, BY CAROL H. HOPPER,

If educators were able to identify which of the 8 kinds of intelligences best suits a struggling student, then they may better address the student's needs.

  4. They allow us to reach all children and all modes of learning.
