Now I understand some of the whole gas prices raising problem and I'm sick of it. I'm only thirteen but i like being informed with this kind of stuff as of right now I'm thinking the republicans side sounds a better to me and that its the environmentalists fault for high gas prices and they wont let us dig because of stupid stuff like animals but before i jump into a side cause it sounds right at first i want to learn more and understand the other side of the story so if someone could post reasons why gas prices are so high that would be great!

  1. It doesn't matter if we drill more. It won't help anything. The U.S. simply doesn't have enough oil left. Even some middle eastern countries are starting to run out.

Gas prices are going up because of increased demand from China, Russia, Brazil, India and other countries. Also Oil companies are charging us more. They are all breaking records for profits.

The only way to reduce fuel costs are to use more alternative energy like wind, geothermal, natural gas, solar, biofuel, and nuclear. We have the technology to do this but it is slow when there is little demand.

Remember don't get information from politicians they lie too much.

  2. Since we are paying like fools , it will rise as we still pay, cycle

  3. Three things to remember:

    (1) You cannot trust what a politician tells you about anything related to economics, because they spin it for their own political purposes. With a little research, you can prove that the candidates from both major parties are lying about energy prices.

    (2) Oil and products from oil are commodities, and are traded as such on speculation that the price will rise or fall.

    (3) There are enough known oil sources in the world to last at least three generations at the current accelerating rate of consumption.  More are being discovered every day.

All that being said, I am amazed at the lack of knowledge about basic economics exhibited by the general population.

There are two major factors affecting gasoline prices today.  The first is incredibly bad timing for Strategic Petroleum Reserve purchases. The second is the weakened U.S. dollar, squandered into near-oblivion by seven years of uncontrolled, exhaustive spending habits by Congress, driving its value further and further down on international exchanges.

When the dollar is worth less, it takes more dollars to buy oil.  When the government uses your tax dollars to buy massive amounts of petroleum products, it reduces the supply, causing the price to go up.

Oil companies are not gouging the market.  If you look at their margins, over the last 10 years, they have made smaller profits in percentages than most retailers.  Anyone who quotes you absolute figures, such as "record profits"  is not telling the whole truth.  Oil companies are currently making a decent profit margin on huge investments.  Oil is trading at over $120 a barrel today.  Ask yourself what oil companies were doing 7 years ago when oil was trading at $25 per barrel.  You know they were not making "record profits" then.  Remember, too, that oil companies are not charitable organizations.  They have to make money so they cans still produce a product.

Some people tout alternative energy sources like wind and solar.  The problem with these alternatives is that they cost more to produce the same amount of energy as petroleum.  Why would you want to pay more for energy if you can get it cheaper by using petroleum?  Alternative energy will only be viable when it produces cheaper energy than petroleum.

  4. did you see where exxon posted a 15 billion dollar profit last quarter? you tell me why the gas prices are what they are

  5. I am neither a republican or democrat. Gas prices keep going up because anything popular goes up in price to make a profit. Why we are still using gas after learning this lesson thirty years ago is BOTH party's fault. The American people are also to blame, because we knew better.
