  1. Well, you have to go back to the late 80s, early 90s.  Georgia was a part of the Soviet Union and then declared independence in 1991.  But the regions of Ossetia and Abkhazia with the Russian support declared separation from Georgia.  During this time Georgia was going through a civil war so there was no central control or stability in the new state.  Basically, when Russia withdrew it just left a vacuum.  In 1993, separatists in Ossetia and Abkhazia basically eradicated 250,000 Georgians and forced thousands more out of their homes.  It was until 1995 when the corrupt Shevardnadze assumed control and he didn't possess enough political strength to reign in the separatists.  When he rigged elections in 2000 supposedly the Rose Revolution in 2003 replaced him with Saakashival who tried to quell the separatists.   Now a few days ago Georgia moved troops in Ossetia to regain control and as a result Russia invaded playing this whole Kosovo-Serbia paradox game.  It's basically a national dispute between Georgia who is clearly a western prodigy and Russia the old miser of the east.  Personally opinion:  Russia doesn't care about Ossetia, they vetoed action in Darfur and Burma on the UN council so them playing this whole humanity card is bullshit.  Add the fact that the elected a KGB agent as their president and support separatists who led mass genocide.  The caucus region is prime in oil and Russia is a huge oil exporter which might be a small factor.  I think Russia is real trying to re-solidify itself in the global arena by crushing Georgia, a "western puppet".  I'm waiting for the PRC to play jumpin jack flash behind the Kremlin.

  2. To Angrycat

    hey, there,

aren't you tired of writing these silly things there?

    You spread disinformation here!!!

You really seem to be an angry cat, calm down, drink a cool water and go to the fresh air!

the answer: Russia's hunger of territory, this is the reason! Russians escalated the situation in the conflict zone on purpose to begin the war and to invade Georgia

  3. To Tammi.

err... may I ask you something? What sources of information for God's sake do you listen to?! you don't believe in what the Angry Cat says? But she is right. Do you sometimes read the history? Read the wikipedia, at last. It looks like all you're doing is watching tv, which is actually disinformation half of the world now. Were you ever at war? Do you even know how it is, to lose everything you have? What right do you have to say such things? They were dying there, Georgians were killing people in South Ossetia. Can you imagine seeing your friends being killed?

Yes, I'm Russian. But now i'm on the Russian side not because I'm Russian, but because it is WRONG to kill inoccent people. It is hard for me to hear, thet Russian troops attaced some of Georgian cities. For your information I know what are news on every side - Russia, Europe and USA. I don't completely beleive any of those news, but if you put them together, you might actually see the whole picture.

    Good luck.

    Don't be foolled again.

  4. The whole conflict is about Southern Ossetia.

There are long-lasting conflict there. Now Ossetia is officially a part of Georgia, but they don't want to be so. The want to be either independent, either a part of Russia (as North Ossetia is now). And when it possible the local population gained the Russian citizenship (90 % now are both citizens of Russia and Georgia/Ossetia). After the conflist 1992-94 SO is de-facto independent state.

That area isn't controlled by Georgia, it is controlled by locals + Russian peacekeepers.

The  night of 07/08/08Georgia attacked Ossetia, they took its capital Tshinvali and killed about 1400 (+ 600 after) of its people +10 Russian peacekeepers. Russia suggested Georgia to end the fire, the refused. Ater that Ossetia asked Russia for help. Couse the UN"s did nothing to make Georgia stop the fire, Russia moved their troops there. Russia as a peacekeeper has to support the side that was attacked.

Th most "fuuny" thing is a fact that the Western Media said nothing when Georgia was shelling for 15 hours and started reports only when Russians came.

Only after it was clear that Georgia is loosing and the USA isn't coming, Georgia asked to stop the fire. But even after that Georgia was shelling Tshinvali for some time.

  5. To Tammi:

I don't think Russia needs any more territory. It has been the largest country in the world with huge amount of natural resources one can imagine. If Russia does need more territory, it would never disintegrate itself 20 years ago. If you do not agree, I would like to see your support argument not an empty statement.

    To the questioner:

The real reason on this Georgia/Russia issue is that stupid Georgia president's miscalculation. That idiot, who provides 2000 Geogian soldiers to help Uncle Sam to do battle in Iraq. With that credit,  he believes Uncle Sam would jump in to help him  if he makes a mess with Russia. That was why he launched attack on last Thursday as Puttin was in Beijing and Russia president was on vacation. Boy, how wrong he was ! Today's Russia means business. The new president is much tougher than Puttin and knows well what he is doing while that idot Georgian does not.  Today's Russia does not need more land but needs some equal respect.  What Russia Bear can not tolerte is the fact that Uncle Sam's little running dog dares to bite him without any respect.  That is why Russia is to punish that idot really hard to show Uncle Sam's other running dogs not to mess up with Uncle Bear  anywhere anymore.
