Why are God's punishments so severe?

Why must a fornicator be punished with 100 lashes? Why must an adulterer be stoned to death? Why must a thief's hand be cut off?

Some very common questions that come not only to the mind of media puppets, but to us Muslims as well. If God is so compassionate, so kind, so merciful; why are His punishments so severe?

I would also like to advise anyone who answers questions asked by trolls, anti-Arabs, anti-Muslims, and anti-anything, to just ignore their questions and their comments. The reason there are so many of them is because people would actually waste time to answer their pointless questions and argue with them. That's what they want, attention. If people ignore their questions completely, and I mean not even post anything, they will stop. The mere fact that you are wasting time for them makes it fun. It went from being Sunnis vs Shias, to Sunnis and Shias vs Ahmadis, to non-Arabs vs. Arabs. Seriously immature. Just ignore it, you answering those questions makes you almost as stupid as they are, no offense.

Anyways, I'm looking for some very smart answers here. If you could please check up on here once in a while to see other people's response, that would be great. If you want my opinion on this question, I can post it as well.

Salam for you my dear friend.Allah gives punishment so severe as spoken in the Qur'an as the life guide for muslims because :

1)punishment should give a fright so the related person and another persons who know it would not do the same mistake or bad doing

2)punishment should be felt fairly and justice by the related family who was the victim and by the related person who did the wrong doing such if he killed anyone,he should be killed too except the family of the killed person forgived him and he paid a certain amount of money agreed by the killed person's family.

3)punishment should give  a fair guarantee for the would be victim be protected by the government from bad doings of others

4)punishment should have a criminal  avoidance for serving the general community interest

- Human beings could not withstand God's punishments. -

That which we see are the punishments of man towards his fellow man.

We create rules and we must live by them, is it not so?

If we break those rules we must suffer the consequences, is it not so?

We shall indeed find out about God's Justice, Compassion, and Mercy, when we are questioned on the "Day of Judgment".

These are the 'inquiries' that man must be truly concerned about, is it not so?

These are the 'sufferings' that man must be truly concerned about, is it not so?

After all, Allah (SWT) is Al Hakam (The Judge).

Allah's punishment is so severe coz Allah swt has warned us many times not do what he prohibited us to do. When someone disobeys Allah swt, then he/she should be Islamically punished according to the Shariah law and it should be witnessed by a group of people. The reason for that, is so others wont commit that sin. Also, another purpose of why Allahs punishment is severe, is coz, when a fornicator gets 100 lashes or when a thiefs left wrist gets cut off,...etc, then Allah swt will lessen his punishment in the grave and the Day of Judgement.

Why so severe?... because He wants us to end up in a good place, Heaven. He sent so many prophets and messenger before us. Signs given, warnings, punishments.

But what happens?

Yet there are those who disobey.

We are his slaves, He is our Creator. Evidently, He cares for us. He knows best.

I don't know about Islam religion, but I know some cults that use powerful tactics coupled with very good threats, they work on their followers and keep them on track.

I'm just wondering if these people would be like animals if someone removed these fears and threats and told them they are not real but as good as the twisted mind that formulated them.

Too bad such people must be less than human that they need to be controlled. The best part is the reason for the excuses they give for their beliefs and how they fit into their lifestyle.

I believe that the muslim faith and the jewish faith all spring from the same well.At a point in time new Prophets arose and made declarations about god's will, and established different rules of worship and punishment.The muslim faith and the jewish are over 2000 years in the making.Think how screwed up things became when a new prophet came forth, declared himself the son of god and messed up some perfectly interesting gods in rome.Be the name Jehova, allah, or jesus, It seems that we all who share in a belief of a higher power, are putting a name to the same universal force.So god is god.And god is great in any language. I could no more reject your faith that I can all the others. The punishments may be a device of man and not god. The catholic bible has been edited and arranged to suit the early church. Is it possible that some words have been put into allah mouth also? I am not trying to defame your beliefs, But I think that we at times are closer to god or allah when we listen to our hearts and not the words of men.

I think a punishment that's not permanent isn't too severe.

With 100 lashings specifically without compassion, it depends what they're lashed with. If no scars are left and no permanent injury, then it means the person has already been forgiven because this lashing is just a guide to enforce a lesson for that person's benefit. Children get smacked too and most have no problem with thinking of it when they're older.

If you believe in God you obviously believe in the afterlife.

How can what happens in this short amount of time compare to the eternity you spend in heaven or h**l.  If your crimes can be atoned in this lifetime by being stoned to death for adultery then perhaps being killed by having rocks thrown at you isn't so bad as spending an eternity in h**l.

Well, sis., it's a good idea to have severe punishments in public, as was done in Muhammad (P.B.U.H)'s time. I mean, look at those Westerners. They stuff people into jails for years and years, and it brings no good, 'cause the criminals just end up meeting their own kind in prison, and learn to be worse when they get out. And they keep increasing. This kind of punishment doesn't nip the evil in the bud.

Those criminals go to jail, and their families wait for them years and years. They lose touch with the real world, and that's horrible. Just waste years and years! And on govt. expenses too. Yet they won't stop ranting that physical punishments r inhuman.



In Islam, the aim of punishments is not merely to punish the transgressor, and satisfy the victim's relations, but also to prevent others from committing the crime. So, we kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

In a country like Saudi Arabia, where the Islamic punishments are applied (well, at least up to some extent now due to Western pressure, though they used to do it properly before), look at the crime rate! It's more than 10 times less than the civilized countries. And it used to be even better before, when the punishments were executed in public. Everybody would come to see, and the sight of the transgressor being punished and bleeding painfully is terrifying. I remember how it used to be a few years ago in here. Punishments would be carried outside the public mosques, and some of the onlookers would vomit or even faint at the sight of the blood.

Even in the Zia-ul-Haq regime in Pakistan, many of the criminals (like the notorious murderers of a child nicknamed 'Papue') were killed in public. After watching the execution, the crowd scattered peacefully with so much fear of the law in their hearts, that not even a single flowerpot or any other little item was harmed as they walked past, frightened. Otherwise, usually, these crowds in Pakistan go about breaking things, destroying public property, burning tires and smashing banks. The Zia govt. was more successful in crime-control with a few public punishments than all the other govts. in Pakistan.

Now, Saudi Arabia is becoming like the other nations, where the physical punishments r considered inhuman. As a result, the crime rate has increased dramatically over the past 4 years. Those who would not even dream of speaking to non mahram females now go about publicly with other women in their cars.

Of course, u won't ever imagine those people (who have seen such severe punishments) ever committing such a crime themselves in that country. So, Islamic punishments are something u could call 'positive terrorism'. They create terror in the hearts of the criminals. They create a sense of security among the people. And they save the govt. the extra expenses which come from keeping people in jails and feeding them over the years. That money could be spent on the poor, deserving Muslims.

It's not to be imagined that hundreds of people in the country will become hand-less or that hundreds of children will be orphaned when those punishments are implemented. No, the punishments r so terrifying that the majority of criminals will have to think of giving up their old ways. So, just a few killings or chopped hands will bring peace and security in the whole country. It's actually a proof of Allah's mercy (upon the innocent people, to keep them from undue fear of criminals) and wisdom.

I would like these kind of punishments to be broadcasted on T.V., newspapers and the internet. But on the other hand, it's not a good idea to do so, because we wouldn't like our children to witness such bloody scenes at a tender age. They will turn out to be cowards and physopaths.

So, it's enough to have public executions where the children are not allowed to enter the execution grounds.

Allah says in the Quran:"AND THERE IS, IN THE QISAS (ISLAMIC PUNISHMENTS), LIFE (FOR THE NATION), O WISE PEOPLE, IF U FEAR ALLAH"
