Why are Goths so into Egyptian Art and Culture?

I dated this one guy that was a Goth and he had a tattoo on his arm of an Egyptian symbol, the circle/cross looking thing. He wanted to go to Egypt and was really into Egyptian culture, does it have to do with their obsession with death? What is it? Anyone who can help, thanks!

Yes, they built astonishing monuments to death.  The pyramids are tombs. They had entire cities with no inhabitants but the dead.  Death occupied their lives, just like goths.

You are basing you theory that all goths are into Egyptian art and culture just because of one goth that you went out with.  Get more proof before you say something.

It kinda sounds to me that you're stereotyping goths just cuz the goth guy you dated was probably fascinated w/ Egypt. The symbol you're describing sounds like an ankh. Ankhs were symbols of life to the Egyptians. Ankhs were also supposed to bring magical protection and were put in a mummy's wrappings as well. Besides, tons of people like Egypt. I mean mummies and Egyptian mythology are so cool. I wish I could be an Egyptologist.

That symbol is an ankh.  The Key of Life.  It is specifically associated with Goths, for some reason.  I associate it with "Logan's Run."

Goths seem to like the death imagery of Egypt, yes.  It's a cool ancient culture with great art and a dark, mysterious feel.  Ann Rice picked it for the beginnings of her vampires.  Good enough for Lestat, good enough for most goths.
