I've not yet looked online (which I'm about to do) but Target sells 6 feet for 29.99. Bestbuy sells for 49.99. That's more expensive than the DVD player! Why?

  1. The upper tier companies like Monster can charge more because they know people will go with the popular name. People tend to buy in-person at the big name stores and buy whatever the store has which tends to be the more well known brand names. There really is no difference in terms of picture/sound quality if you buy the cheaper cable. The longer the cable you need the better it might be to go with a bigger name. The quality of the cable itself will be better because they're better insulated and less prone to interference but it won't make a difference in a 6' cable.

  2. They are a much more advanced cable. They are more expensive to produce. When demand for the product increases the price will decrease. It's the law of economics.

    visit Tigerdriect.com for good pricing.

  3. You can buy them on Ebay for about $10.00

Best Buy and Circuit City are just ripping you off.

  4. for one a dvd player's picture is not going to improve THAT much with HDMI.  It will help out Bluray and HD Dvd players which aren't that cheap.  most of the time the 29.99 cable at walmart or target is just fine to use for simple setups.  HDMI is also video and audio all through one cable (when supported by the device)

  5. Get the shortest one you can - the longer they are the better materials they have to use to keep from degrading the signal, also they have to use more of it.  3 ft is usually plenty if components are not that far away.  Walmart has Phillips and another for about $25.

  6. At first, HDMI cables were expensive because they were only made in small quantities... now that they are becoming more popular, it doesn't cost as much to manufacture them (although it is still much more costly than RCA cable making).  The prices have come down to reflect that - what now costs 30-50 dollars at Target or Bestbuy used to cost over $100.  I bought some $10 cables at a wholesaler in Houston, and they work fine for 720p, and sometimes for 1080i, but they can't do 1080p... I also bought a $25 cable from http://www.bluejeanscable.com and it works perfect for 1080p with high color.  You should check them out!
