Why are Hookers usually throwers in line-outs???

Why is it usually the hooker that throws the ball in the line-out, as opposed to the other forwards?

  1. It use to be the Scrumhalfs but it changed too hookers. It does not have to be a hooker but it is at this stage in world rugby a very specific role.


  2. That is the hookers job.Pretty dumb question it's like saying why does the scrum half feed the scrum.

  3. well let's think about it:

    Your props are your biggest men so it would make sense to use them as your lifters.  The locks are usually tall so that allows them to get the most extension when being lifted, and the other can be used as a lifter cause the locks could be second strongest in the pack.  You don't want to use any of your backs as a throw in because you need them to pass the ball out too.  A flanker is usually used in a lineout if the ball is overthrown.  So that leaves the Hooker, who not only anchors the pack, but I guess could be seen as an anchor/leader of the lineout....I hope that makes sense
