Question:

Why are Intellectuals associated with Liberals? Is it because Intellectuals actually use their intellect?

Also, is it true that Halliburton's stock and the amount of dead American soldiers in Iraq doubled last year?

Was it Phil Donahue that said that? Is that true?

Please, no angry rants from our less intellectual participants.

  1. If you mean kids still in school or career students and their career student teachers, you have a point. Those of us with real intellect and world skills tend to work in the real world and not in theory. Especially theories that have been proven by history not to work. We also tend to be less smug about our intelligence and not degrade others that do not think as we do as somehow mentally challenged.  Use your vast intellect and think on that. It might make you nearly as smart as you think you are.

  2. The number of soldiers as well as civilians in Iraq has been on a steady upward trend each month since the war began. More soldiers died last month than any other month since the war began, and you can expect it to continue.

  3. Intelligent people aren't fooled by the Republicans' preposterous claims that they're saving us money when they're spending like drunken spoiled teenagers and pocketing millions of dollars in profits from the war.  Intelligent people expect more accountability from their leaders, so they tend to be drawn to the more forthright Democrats.

    [edit]

I'm not saying that Democrats are perfect; I'm just saying that they tend to follow through on what they say they're going to do.  Republicans tend to do the opposite of what they promise, and it takes a pretty gullible person not to see that.  They promise to let us keep more of our money, then they drive us into a recession with their reckless spending.  They promise to keep us safe, then they get us into an unpopular war that has earned our country more enemies.  They promise to run the country in a Christian way (which would be unfairly discriminatory even if they did it "right"), then they misinterpret the Bible as justification for hatred and bigotry.  Can any of their supporters name one thing they've followed through on other than their tax cuts, which are for their rich cronies only and make things even worse for the rest of us?

  4. Actually... I was under the impression that the stereotype was the other way around.  I mean, if you want an emotional argument, look left; if you want a rational argument, look right.  Take your question, for example; it's loaded with fallacious phrasing instead of solid logic.  Sure, there are intellectual liberals, but you are not one of them.

  5. I'd have to agree with your premise. However, there are some intellectuals who are conservative, yet they have a moral problem.

  6. It is hard not to rant. I am from the small town where Halliburton started and we are just so tired of all the false info floating around out there. My family works hard for Halliburton and we constantly have to correct ppl's misconceptions. Please - go read some international news and stop watching Fox News.

BTW - how can you consider yourself an intellectual if you capitalize the word?

  7. We have a very unfortunate anti-intellectual streak in American culture.  We don't trust people who seem too smart.  The Republicans have tried hard to exploit this feeling.  Nearly every Democratic candidate for years and years has been characterized by the Republicans as too brainy, therefore out of touch, not to be trusted.  GW Bush pretended to be dumber than he was, pretending not to be able to pronounce certain words, and speaking with a hick Texas accent that he could turn on and off depending on who he was talking to.

d**k Cheney's Halliburton stock has risen 3000% since he's been in office.  Look it up yourself!

As for the amount of dead Americans in Iraq, we don't get the real story there.  We only hear of actual troops who die, but 'contractors' (i.e. mercenaries, professional fighters) have a higher death toll and that is kept secret.  So we may well have lost twice as many last year as the year before.

  8. Thinking is discouraged among the conservatives. They see science as a bad thing. It's about belief and facts get in the way.

  9. I haven't seen anything intellectual from any liberal on here, so you are only buying into a myth, not a reality.

  10. You don't have it quite right-the Liberals expound to us they are intellectually superior. Just ask one.
