Why are Iran trying to provoke the rest of the world?

This is a serious question.

By firing missiles and talking about striking Israel and US bases they seem to be trying to provoke the US at least into military action.

I don't know much about world affairs, but I'm pretty sure the US could take down Iran. Do they want the Iraq/Aghanistan situation in Iran too?

I just don't understand the reasoning behind it! Why taunt such a large, powerful country? What have they got to gain?

Excuse me, but Iran are ONLY talking about striking if fired upon.

Isreal and the US have been talking about pre-emptive strikes agaiunst Iran for months.  In return, Iran has said if you bomb us, we'll bomb you back.

It is no secret that Isreal are seriously planning to bomb a sovereign nation - how would you feel if a country bombed you becuase it didn;t want you to defend yourself?

Iran stands to gain nothing from war. They are attempting to show the aggressor U.S./Israel  that an attack upon Iran will not be a cake-walk.

Iran has done nothing illegal. All of the illegal activities belong to the U.S. It is the U.S. that attacked and invaded the Middle East based upon a lie. Iran becoming a threat due to developing nuclear weapons is also a lie. Quite obviously, were Iran to develop a nuclear weapon they wouldn't be able to use it aggressively on anyone without insuring their own immediate demise. The fear of the U.S. and Israel regarding Iran having a nuclear weapon is that a nuclear armed Iran would no longer be subject to imperialist domination by the U.S. and Israel.

Additionally, Iran has nothing to gain from attacking anyone. The U.S. has shot itself in the foot by attacking and invading Iraq and Afghanistan. All Iran needs to do is wait for the U.S. debacle to fall in upon itself and they will gain the dominant position in the Middle East. The U.S. elites are keenly aware of that reality and it is why they want to attack Iran.

Maybe they are just sending a message that they will not lie back and allow an invasion, which is a strong possibility, without making some strikes before their eventual defeat. In that short time there could be a lot of lost lives and devastation.

I am pretty sure it was to show Iraq that they would be f*cked over should they declare war or carry-out terrorist activity in Iran, I doubt they would even consider starting a war with America. What about Britain building them Aircraft carriers, I am all for it, but do you consider that a message to America, because we don't.

Hun I don’t know what  u think about Iran but I have to say first it started with Iran wanting what every other powerful country have, well what can u say it is them right. The countries like US cant say u can’t have what we have. And the other thing is it is US that wants to attack Iran there is no point of war for Iran for example why do u think US attacked Iraq? Do u really think it was just because they wanted to free Iraq from Saddam? If u remember they said the same thing about Iraq that they have nuclear as well but they didn’t find anything and they knew that before they attacked Iraq so why they attacked, because Iraq is one of the biggest producer of oil Iran is as well. And that is one of the main reason that they wana attack Iran.

"I don't know much about world affairs" - Why would you want to ask a question if you dont know anything about current affairs. Yahoo answers have individuals who give radical answers. So this would not be the best place to get opinions.

Iran is puffing. Those nuclear and missile program are smoke. In fact, both programs cannot put together. Their provocation is to force U.S. or Israel to bomb them. Then, U.S. just got a re-run on Iraqi war. Then oil price would be unstoppable.

U.S. has to withdraw from Iraq and Afghan due to lack of resource and bankruptcy of its economy.

Then, al Qaeda, Taliban and Iran and Iraq rebel will conquer U.S. and then Israel and then the whole world.
