Question:

Why are Jets fans so excited with having Favre over Pennington though Favre has a worse career passer rating?

addition to Pennington having a better completion percentage and longer yards/completion average (contrasting the popular belief that he has a weak arm and doesn't make deep passes):

Brett Favre: 85.7, 61.4%, 7.0 (over 18 years)

Chad Pennington: 88.9, 65.6%, 7.2 (over 9 years)

  1. Wow you dont know football. You have to look at leadership, and how he wins games. Passer rating doesnt mean a whole lot to a team like the Jets, the just want to win games.

  2. Lets compare just the first 9 years and you will see more tds and more playoff wins.  Plus, in his first nine years favre had been in 2 superbowls.  Before we compare career stats, lets wait until both careers are over.

Or you could just look at last years stats

    Favre- 4155 yards, 28 td, 15 int

    Pennington- 1765 yards, 10 td, 9 int

I like Pennington, alot, but he is old before his time and only has a few productive years left.  Favre is a better mentor for clemens and still has as many good years left in him as pennington.

It is uncool how the JETS have treated Pennington, he is the only reason tyhey made the playoff this millenium, but he is no Favre.

  3. Well there are a few things to point out here. The first is that there is only a 3 or 4 point difference in their passer ratings.  So that isn't a big deal, and they both have had great passer ratings through their career.  Secondly, Brett Favre has been in the game longer.  So when you are in your career longer  your numbers will dwindle.  18 years against 9 years.  You really think that Favre's numbers would be above someone who started 9 years ago when he's been in the leauge way longer?  One other reason why Packer fans should be and are excited is because Favre brings two elements that the Jets have not had.   He brings winning, and consistency.  Even when the Packers did not always make the playoffs under Favre, he had a winning attitude, and he was consistent.  There is a reason why he has surpassed Dan Marino's records, he is just that good even at 38.  So I think the fans are excited because he brings a motivating attitude of being a winner, because he was and is a winner.  Chad Pennington was not that bad of a QB either, but he was unable to be consistent.  Some of it was due to injury but a lot of it was due to his own mechanics..

  4. If Chad Pennington saw this, he'd call you a moron. "contrasting the popular belief that he has a weak arm and doesn't make deep passes". Uh, sure. Whatever you say. Just because he averages about 7 inches farther a pass doesn't mean he has a good arm. Numbers. They kill teams in the draft ALL THE TIME!

  5. It's simple Favre's a superbowl winning quarterback.

  6. Basically because Brett is the best quarterback in the nfl while Chad has many flaws including his weak arm.

  7. You're basing this on numbers and not looking at the quarterback.  Stats don't win games good quarterbacks do.  Pennington can't hold a candle to Brett Favre no matter what the stats are.  Any real football fan, even a Jets fan would know this.

  8. because pennington continues to get injured every season and last season abysmall performance.  pennington could barely throw the ball downfield last season and favre still has a bigtime arm.  Brett Favre has never been seriously injured in his career and it is much more difficult to remain consistent over 18 years than 9 years.

  9. don't get me wrong i like aaron rogers but brett doesn't belongs with the packers and he allways will when you think of brett farve do you picture him as a  part of the jets or a part of the packers. well i guess nothing is going to change in this situation so brett good luck i hope every thing works out.  and GO PACKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Simply because Brett Favre is a gutsy quarterback and a proven winner. Pennington is one of Bill Parcells' boys, but gets hurt a lot, hasn't gone far in the playoffs since '02.
