Why are McCain supporters calling him a hero when he was really just a below average soldier that liked war?

1. He graduated bottom 5 in his class.

2. He didn't read the manual for his own plane, which almost got him killed.

3. He didn't change at all after his near-death experience, and just kept on partying and being a below average soldier.

4. He never saved anyone.

Getting tortured as a soldier does NOT make you a hero. It makes you a soldier with a casualty. A hero is someone who STOPS terrorists, who SAVES lives, NOT someone who just gets hurt in vain.

  1. McSame is the worst person ever to run for president

  2. I have been waiting for this question seriously.  I will say this, people love to speak about American soilders and their bravery overseas; especially in hostage situations.  The thing I do not like is that when it comes to McCain people act like he cannot be questioned about his service.  And by question I do not mean that he went through alot and certainly struggled through his endeavor, But that fact that being a hostage does not equal being able to run a government.  Nor does it give ample experience in foreign policy.  I do not like the fact that whenever someone mentions this, they get drilled as being unpatriotic.  That is silly.  No one will ever deny that he went through alot, but he does not equal being able to become president.  I personally think that if Obama can be called out on being young and fresh out of diapers, then McCain can certainly be called out on the fact that his war record though justified does not automatically equal presidential experience.  This point is important.

  3. get a clue man, if you don't like his politics then fine but you can't deny that he is a true hero

  4. What do you mean never saved anyone?????...Dude, I recommend that you do your research first before going online and write something that would make you look stupid.

    McCain = American Hero

    Obama = American Gigolo

  5. Text copy of Fred D. Thompson's speech that nearly brought me to tears. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080903/ap_o...

    McCain is a hero who made a sacrifice for this country and went through 5 1/2 years of a nightmare you couldn't possibly fathom.

  6. Pointing to #4 on your list...Yes - he did!  By refusing to leave out of order, someone else went home.  How would you feel if the guys 6 places behind you in line got to be helped first?  He is a hero and has definately earned that title.

    Just for the record - I'm a Democrat who fully intends to vote for Obama/Biden but I give credit where credit is due.

  7. Although this will be an unpopular answer, the reasons are not only because this country has become devoid of critical thinking at the deepest levels but also an infinite fear of appearing unpatriotic.

    You are right on every point you mention.  A hero is not one who joins the military to blindly follow orders, serves his country without any thought as to what he is doing there, and finally has not learned any lessons from his war past to prevent others from dying or getting captured themselves.

    A hero is one who would have come home and asked "Why was I flying missions there in the first place, and if not for good reason how can I prevent others from falling also?".  A hero would 40 years later recognize his and his nations errors instead of wanting to repeat them over and over again with other lives.

    A hero is clever enough to see and admit his mistakes all the while ensuring others do not fall in his foorsteps.  John McCain was a good soldier.  We all want to say he is a hero because we have an inability to realize that strength comes not only from pride and steadfastness at all times, but also of being contemplative in our weaknesses and failures.

    Cheering USA is number 1 is not what made it so.  Lowering test standards to raise the passing grade does not make us smarter.  Calling someone a hero who is not one will not help create new ones.

  8. Man, I don't like McCain either, but I don't like him because I don't agree with his policies.  ANY man who served in the military deserves respect for the simple fact that they served.  They don't have to do some large heroic stunt to save hundreds of lives.  So I respect McCain as a man who served my country, but I dislike him as a man who's policies are out of touch with my personal beliefs.  But you can get him from graduating from the bottom of his class.  Another reason why I like Obama: an educated man for president would be wonderful.

  9. He was and is a hero.You are immature, scared, disrespectful, and very representive of what is wrong with the youth in this country!
