  1. It's called Wii because it's meant to play with other people to bring the family together >_>

  2. The Wii was originally going to be called the Revolution until Nintendo found out that is very hard to translate Revolution into different languages becuase Nintendo sells worldwide.

Nintendo decided to make a name up. A universal name that would just stay the same in all the different languages and countries. They thought up of Wii. It doesn't mean too much, it just means that "Wii" (meaning the world) play together and have fun and stuff.

And no, Wii is definitely NOT Japanese. It's pretty much made up.

  3. It's definitely not Japanese. It's a unique take on the word "We". The slogan that Nintendo has been using is "Wii would like to play", which is supposed to represent playing together with your friends and family.

  4. It's a play on ENGLISH words, actually...  The system is gears for family play, and younger kids...  so the name means just that.

Wii as in "We play."  Like a family that plays together.

And Wii as in "WHEEEEEEEEEE!!!"  Like kids having fun.
