North Americans, and Americans in particular are so afraid of people drinking alcohol? They introduced the Volstead Act and have made several attempts to marginalise and attach negative connotations to drinking of alcohol. Many American outlets (i.e. MADD) go so far as to label regular drinkers as "alcoholics," trying to stigmatise drinking. Can someone explain this?
