I'm getting a used car and all the PT Cruisers in lots, even new ones from like 2004 or 2005, are under 10,000 dollars. Why are they so cheap?

  1. Its 4-5 years old and was only a $15k car new.  Miles and age both lower the value.  People who have never actually driven an American car also view them as junk which devalues it further.

  2. PT cruisers are cheap due to the fact that Dodge/Chrysler don't use expensive or luxurious parts when they put together their vehicles.

  3. because a lot of people do not like the style i have owned the same one since 2003 it is a 2002 and have had no problems with it however i do the routine maintenance, i would buy another one if this one dies

  4. Its because the engine in them stink also to be that small of a car the gas mileage really stinks like 23 mpg

  5. There aren't many dodge/Chrysler products that hold high value.. the pt cruiser is on the same level as the neon as far as comfort and performance

  6. they're cheap for a number of reasons.

most Chrysler products don't hold their value well.

they are built of the same platform as the neon... think of them as a glorified neon wagon.

they get terrible gas mileage for their class.  rated around 27 mpg with a stick, whereas my wagon of the same size was rated at 36 the same years... and the chevy HHR which is a similar class is still 31 mpg.

they don't drive very well for this class.  cars in this class which drive better... Matrix/Vibe, Mazda 3 sportwagon, HHR, Kia Spectra5, Mitsubishi Sportwagon, VW JEtta wagon.  all of them also get better gas mileage than the Cruiser as well.
