Why are Religious people in America associated with the Upper Middle Class?

Republicans are for Religeous peoples and Rich People.

Demecrats are for Secular people and Average Joes.

Traditionally and in other contries poor was more pious. And the more educated and rich were secular liberals.

Im confused by that generalization. Many people think that "I dont like bush" makes the democrats. It doesnt. More than 65% or so would find that their views are actually in accordance with republican values.
