  1. I'm gonna neglect all the political stuff and give you a condensed summary.

South Ossetia is a break-way state from Georgia controlled by separatists. SO is not recognized by any international body like the UN as an independent nation so it is still technically part of Georgia. Basically, Georgia launched an offensive in attempt to recapture it from the separatists. Russia then invaded claiming that Russian citizens were being killed by Georgian forces in SO. Now, Georgia and Russia are currently fighting in SO and Russia has launched jet strikes against some bases in Georgia.

All this is happening as Georgia is attempting to join NATO, something Russia is strongly opposed to. That, along with a major oil pipe-line are thought by some to be Russia's true motivations, but that is not known.

  2. What else is new, OIL.  Southern Georgia has one of the world's largest oil pipelines running thru it.

  3. I think that Georgie tried to take over some land..then fired bombs...but I'm probably not right...not sure.

Lemme get some quotes from it.

"THE war over South Ossetia, the breakaway region of Georgia, appeared to be widening last night. Vladimir Putin, the Russian prime minister, flew into the area from the Beijing Olympics as his forces seemed to be gaining the upper hand.

After another day of fighting in the rebellious province – and Russian air force attacks that killed civilians in Georgia itself – there were reports of fighting in Abkhazia, Georgia’s other separatist region.

Abkhazian leaders said they had launched air and artillery strikes on government forces with Russian air support.

In South Ossetia itself, separatist leaders claimed 1,500 had been killed, including many civilians, in the initial Georgian assault on Friday. They said tens of thousands had been displaced. Moscow claimed to have pushed Georgian troops from Tskhinvali, the region’s heavily damaged capital. "

  4. Lol? It is not fun AT ALL.

  5. The US is involved, too...

Georgia is an ally of the US, and a NATO member. Don't believe everything you hear about it in mainstream news.

  6. Georgia is the aggressor, they invaded South Ossetia and it resulted in genocide. Russia has came to their aid.
