  1. They are not painted with just some black paint.  It is a unlike paint that

    1) makes it more stealthy

    2) Makes it almost invisible to the naked eye on night missions.  Almost every mission is a night mission.

  2. So they are less visible against the dark skies that high up.

  3. because they fly at night it is for more stealth

  4. The SR-71 series of aircraft were not stealth planes. When these aircraft were made the term 'stealth aircraft'  had not yet been invented. The black paint had special heat resistant properties and was applied because the aircraft travelled through the air so fast that it's titanium skin got very hot and had a tendency to expand. Any other type of paint would have been burned or flaked off.

  5. Provides heat resistance to the engines that give the aircraft its mach 3+ power

  6. the reasons mentioned above, and to transmit heat better through the shell.

  7. it is black just for the sake of radar jamming...coz the black paint is made up of a special radar absorbing material..

  8. They used to only take photos in daylight, but they got a synthetic aperture RADAR right before they were retired that overlooked the daylight requirement.

  9. No Danny K, very few missions were night missions. You see, the blackbird was a photo reconnaissance aircraft. photos are better in daylight. Jeez man.

  10. i think you less radar detection so stealth
