Question:

Why are Sarah Palin's mothering skills being questioned?

As a conservative traditional mother, I recognize the value of being home with little ones. I also believe in real parenting that involves rules and ramifications.

However, I also believe that a father and a mother are both equally important. So is the rest of the family. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, etc. All of these people participate in a family.

Being on the campaign trail will keep Sarah more busy than usual, but that is ok. She has a supportive husband and extended family who are no doubt pitching in.

In regards to Bristol, any parent on this planet knows that no matter how hard you try, you cannot control your children forever. They grow up and make their own decisions. They make mistakes and they have to learn to live with them. Bristol's situation doesn't prove anything bad about Sarah's mothering abilities.

Nobody is questioning Obama's ability to spend time with his little girls. They need a daddy just as much as Palin's children need a mommy.

  1. 1.  She claims to have "traditional" family values.   I would question a mother OR father leaving an infant at this stage to pursue political aspirations. Especially if they are claiming to have "strong" family values.

    2.  She pushes abstinence for s*x ed in schools... ummm obviously that doesn't work.   I don't agree - I do think MANY parents teach their kids to act responsibly when it comes to their sexuality.  She did not.   I also think announcing her daughters pregnancy to squelch the other rumors was an awful thing for a parent to do.

Again - political aspirations before family values - hypocritical to say the least.

It isn't about her being a mother.... it is about her being a parent.

Obama's girls are not requiring special needs at this point in their life, nor are they underage and knocked up.

I just don't understand how the "religious right"  can actually not see the hypocrisy on this one.

  2. People are questioning it because she purposely projects an old-fashioned, conservative, an almost infallible small-town mom image. The fact that her daughter, just like any average teenager could, got knocked up at 17 is ironic. The pregnancy shatters the very same image Palin is trying to build and attract voters with. If Republicans weren't this self-righteous, the pregnancy would not be an issue for anyone.

  3. Well said!

It's so sad that people have to tear down a whole family because of their ego's.  They're so afraid of what she can do, they know she's stronger than Obama, she knows family values.  She's run a state of over 22,000 employees, has fought corruption.  What has he done?  Nailed bulletins to telephone poles.  The only way he got into the Senate was by hiring a lawyer to disqualify every else!

Is that what he's trying to do here???

  4. Hah! I can just imagine what conservative pundits would be saying if Obama were parading a pair of unwed teenage parents-to-be in front of the TV cameras while simultaneously calling for their privacy to be respected.

I agree with you that children make mistakes and bad decisions, but a mother who is using her children's mistakes to further her own political ambitions is, in my opinion, a bad mother.
