Because they don't like being vulnerable because that will make people think they're weak.  You can do something to hurt them today, and you really didn't give it a second thought, because they don't look like it bothered them, then 3 weeks later they explode, and you're just like... "wtf did I do?"  ay!  Why are they like that?  I still don't know...
