Why are Shake Shack (in NYC, madison square park) burgers so good? Best burger I've had in NYC hands down.

I don't think its psychological... I've had a whole lot of burgers in NYC, including Burger Joint (the one inside the hotel) which everyone claims is so amazing - and its not nearly as good as the shack. I also lived in Texas for 23 years where there is some amazing bbq and never had anything near as good. They must cook them in butter or something.

I think it's psychological.  After waiting an hour for a cheap hamburger, with other people who swear they are the best, you are more likely to think they are great.

I've had much better burgers in the city.

It's entirely possible that they DO put butter on the burgers...they fashion themselves after an old-timey custard stand, and many of those places do, in fact, butter the buns before they put the burgers on them.

Fresh Beef ground daily.  Quality Buns.

And they don't cook 'em to death.
