  1. They just aren't cost effective enough. As your 1st 2 answerers have said, the cost out weighs the money you would save by using them.

Even the domestic wind powered generators don't save a great deal.

The sooner these companies get off their collective high horses and offer this technology at prices that would attract domestic users, instead of looking at potential users as 'a fast buck', then we would all beat a path to their doors. I suspect that some of the companies that market them, are somehow connected to the utility companies (shares held) so that they can't be seen to be taking moneyfrom the utilities themselves. Self perpetuating wealth and corporate greed.

  2. They are expensive!

I would love to get a home kit to get off the 'grid', but I don't have that kind of money.  That, and I live in a northern climate (MN) so I'm not in the best place to collect solar energy.

I love the idea though, it's just not cost effective yet.

  3. Mainly that it cost quite a bit, and the technology is still in its infancy (not saying it has not been around for a short while, just the cost of producing them is still high for their value).

That being said there are examples of cities that have solar panel roofs. Also the technology of new solar cells are becoming more impressive as we speak. I can see a major shift in its use in the next ten year.

  4. I think it is because they are expensive and not really effective unless it is sunny. (?) Sorry i don't really know
