Question:

Why are Stanley Cups having 2 older established teams always soooooooooooo much more interesting and exciting?

Is it because these teams like Detroit, NJ, Pittsburgh are always better? Is it because the fans make it exciting because they know and understand the game? Or is it just my imagination.

  1. This particular one was more interesting  because Wings and Pens are  two of the biggest markets the NHL has. So yes, you will have more knowledgable group of hard-core fans, with exceptions of course. When a hockey game has a bigger TV audience in the US than a basketball game, you know it's something special.

  2. Respectfully, I don't know if I agree with you. I can certaily see your point, and I do think the game is more interesting when there aren't a bunch of newbies who don't understand freaking out about it. However, the newbies can become die hards...and frankly, we were all newbies at some point. I think it can be kind of cool when a relatively new team wins a major upset against a more seasoned team...as long as it isn't mine ;)

Hockey is hockey, I'll take it anyway I can get it.

  3. you mean original 6 teams and rivalries?

cause the young penguin team isn't the "established" yet whereas the red wings have been "established" as winners for years.

histories of the franchises makes it exciting to watch. for instance there are no canadian teams, and as much as i like hockey, if my two favourite american teams weren't playing this finals i wouldn't watch it if it was say the stars/devils, sharks ducks, panthers thrashers/kings, etc...
