Question:

Why are Subway employees incompetent?

I have been to various Subways a few times over the last year or so across the country when travelling. Every time, they have either screwed up my order (and i'm standing right there telling them what to put in it), charged me the wrong price, or have completely missed the mark on their portions. I think the pre-req to work there is to be a apathic teen.

  1. I had lost my Job at a great employer a year and a half ago, The only thing I found that was hiring was Subway. This Job is not as easy as people try to make it out to be. You have a task list for the whole day and a c**p load of task to do before you leave. You have to normally walk the trash to a dumpster over and over all day, Which is located so far from the store, We have to change 10 big trash cans a day, Thaw all the foods out, Prep all the foods to be served, Proof the bread, Make the bread, clean the lobby, fill the ice machine 6 buckets at a time, Clean the front counter, count the cash safe, count the cash drawer at the begining and end of the shift, listen to managers whine all day that you put 8 olives on a foot long instead of six, and do a ton of dishes. I have worked in Management for some corporate offices and to me, those are pieces of cake. I work my butt off and put on a smile to every customer, Not everyone they hire are perfect and usually get in your way when you try to do a good job. It is alot of work during rush hour and we usually don't get out on time because instead of doing most of the things we have to do before we can leave...We have to wait on some irrogant customers. and that is more annoying then having to ask someone to fix a mistake they made with a sandwich. It's really a hard job and to the good people that work there they do not need to feel belittled and called meth heads and stuff. I was required to take a drug test at the immediate care center (peeing in front of a nurse) before I even got the job. So people really need to think before they write these bad things about anyone. Even if lousy service happened. Don't you have Lousy days too? I mean come on...People just need to grow up.

  2. facts:

The only way to get a good salary at subway- is if you suck up to the manager or general manager. You can be an axcellent employee, never call in sick, get to work on time, all that using just the public transportion, do your job right, stay in the job for years, but as soon as the suck-ups do their job which is sucking up, 90% their salary is higher than yours.

Being rude to the customers- different cases, some are always rude because their unhappy with their salary based on the amount of work they do, NOT just making sandwiches. Get yelled by by your mistakes instead of just simply correct them, but when you do something right or good they tend to forget ALOT to atleast say GOOD JOB to their employees, which would mean alot if they would realize that. Most subway customers treat subway like a freaking perfect machine, you know the saying for burger king "have it your way" obviously you can't even get that at BURGER KING so why so be up tight at subway, try being behind the line and listen how customers complain "oooohh you missed 1/2 of oil and vinegar on my sandwich are you blind?" SO this is how simple it is, customer service and it's NOT the customers fault why the employees are being mistreated by the management so theres no excuse for rudeness but at the if a customer is just plain arrogant rude stuck up person, yes the employees can't give you 100% customer service unless you change their attitude, and yes employees at subway are their to make your sandwich not for themselves to laugh at your stupid jokes and when they don't you get mad, I guess that's all human nature at the end of the day.

people who work at subway or any other food chains doesn't need to be put down JUST because they make you're food, some of them have their job so maybe they can go to school when the management decided to focus on good employees for better salary, some of them actually love that job, after all is a decent job, so for the the customers who complains for just about every stupid thing, find another habit because obviously they need a life.

For the employees who needs to be treated right by the management, can't quit because you NEED your job, do your best to treat the customers fair, NO you don't have to laugh at their jokes just do your best to make them their dream sandwiches but if their being (_i_)holes try your best to still do your job properly, because one thing is true KARMA. vice versa, customers and employees ALL human beings. At the end of the day

  3. i kno ha.......they always manage 2 s***w up my orders......but i still luv them!!!!!!!!(da sandwiches not da peoplez)

  4. ive worked at a subway before and it was the busiest in the city! and the only problem that we had on our store was that our service was way too fast. subway gives us 30 seconds from  the time we take your order to the time you pay (during the lunch and dinner rushes). at the store i worked at we had two hours of non-stop orders and avreged 87 subs an hour. i have also worked lunch rushes by myself and i managed to do 40 subs and have them pay. my second week there i had to do a dinner rush and i succeded in having on mistakes. i have found that if the employee keeps their cool and askes the person what they want on their sub instead of the person telling them you save alot of time. subway also has like 50 hours of training videos. and there are always people from  head office doing quality control checks and they nevertell you who they are untill you get that email from  them. i managed to become a supervisor after three weeks and asistant manager after 2 months and i always trained the staff how to make subs as fast and how to make them  properly with no mistakes. i have even worked 16 hour days and still managed to make subs the way they should be made. my manager and i also had to work at another store cause that manager and all the employees walked out on the owner during a lunch rush. that store was avraging 40 subs an hour and running out of products. after a week that store was the second busiest store in my city and avragind 78 subs an hour and we broke sales records every week for a year and a half.

  6. consumers have every right to complain about the way they were treated & served, after all your job does entail customer service. I worked at Subway in high school & understood that I'd have to deal with the demands of the job. Don't complain about being on your feet all day or the long list of things to do, thats your JOB! thats what youre GETTING PAID to do!

It's a shame people think they can treat their customers any which way they please. They're paying for your service, don't give them a s**t deal. Put on that d**n smile & be happy youre able to say you have a job!

  7. i would love to tell them to fix their mistake but they seem so pissed off i just dont want to deal with their attitude. i dont want to feel like the b***h customer. well everyones different. thank you good subway workers

  8. I work at subway and I'm on my feet for eight hours plus on top of the fact I open the store by myself almost everyday of the week and I'm there alone by myself for quite a few hours.  In that short time I have to get a huge list of things done in an hour before we open.  While we are open I am the only who has to make sure all the bread is done and as quickly as possible while serving customers, which is not an easy task.  Still I do my best to smile at everyone, greet them with respect and do my best to get them out of there as fast as they need me to.  If I mess up on something and you don't speak up about it then how am I suppose to know what you wanted?  I'm short I cannot hear anyone so I have to stand on my toes to understand what they want.

Having p**s poor customers that just b***h at you because everything isn't one hundred percent perfect all of the time makes things much more stressful.  If we mess up, let us know we will fix it... it happens.  There is a lot of prep work and running around that we do during the day, so many things go into a day in the back.  Even though all of that is going on I still give great customer service because I am soo thankful for the great customers that I have which come to see me every morning.

But thats not to say there aren't complete morons that run the night shift.  I've heard several complaints about how long it takes the girls to make the subs high schoolers that work there don't really care.  Nothing is done right so in the morning I have to fix a bunch of their mistakes.  So I am sure that plenty of workers are incompetent but you are going to have that at most 'fast food' places you go.

  9. Anybody that is complaning about how subway makes there sandwiches should shut the **** up. Or go home and make there own sandwiches. You guys are a bunch of stuck up a**holes who have a stick up there but and think that the world revolves around you. How would you like to have to make food for a bunch of people who do nothing but sit behind a desk all day, when you had to stand for 8 something hours. And then they have the nerve to come into your store and treat you like you are there for there convenance. Someone needs to wake up, and get over themselves. I bet you talk to them like s**t. If I ever see someone like you I would tear them a new a*****e.

  10. Some workers are incompetent. But maybe if you notice these things you should point them out to the worker, because 90% of the time chances are it was a mistake, and the employee would gladly fix said mistake. You act like the problem is with the workers, when most of the time, the issue lies with you, the customer.

As for you being rung up incorrectly: Customers don't understand the workload forced upon subway employees. Imagine working a rush hour of 80 sandwiches in one hour (Thats not even one sandwich per minute), and being understaffed, whilst cooking bread. Thats a lot of stress. Any normal human being could make a mistake.

As for your sandwich being made wrong: Most customers also don't speak up loud enough. Do you not realize we have music playing for your dining pleasure, an oven, proofer, toaster oven, microwaves, coolers, freezer, and don't forget other employees, and customers speaking. On top of all the noise, we also have a sneeze guard, that depending on height, can interfere with how well you, or the employee can hear you.

As for the portion problems: You take that up with Subway Corporation. Every Subway is privately owned - we're a franchised business. But we still have to follow headquarters rules. If you think your portion sizes are wrong, you should see what we are trained to put on a sandwich. Those olives people love so much? Technically, by book we have to put 3 olives per 6 inch, and 3 per foot long. And if you're unsatisfied with your portions maybe you AGAIN should speak up and voice that you would like MORE of that particular veggie. We make the sandwich as effectively as you ORDER the sandwich.

ALSO, to the idiot who was complaining about the woman being expressionless at subway. We aren't paid to laugh at your lame jokes. Most of the time we are in a bad mood. We provide friendly customer service but joking and getting to know, or talking to you other than what we are required to say isn't in our job description. I HATE when customers joke with me. I'm busy, I don't have time to sit there and laugh at your jokes. Maybe you should have been busy telling her what you wanted, instead of joking. You went to subway to order a sandwich - not socialize.

  11. I work at Subway. I'm not incompetent. I'm guessing your one of those rude; inpatient;middle-aged customer that complain every step of the way? Maybe try doing the job yourself and then tell me how easy it is.

  12. It's not that they are incompetent. Some of the employees that work there actually have
college degrees already, but with the way work is now a days, thats all there is to offer. People will take what they can get in order to pay there bills. Also, the reason they give you the certain amount is due to how they were trained. They give you what corporate recommends. It's not like they choose how much to put on it. Lets think about this.. When you go to Burger King, or any other place that serves you food.. Do you complain about how many pickles are on your burger? No. Because quite frankly you are not sitting there watching what they put on it like you do at subway. So, really anyone that sits there and complains about subway not giving enough items, take it up with corporate. Or next time sit there and think about what I just mentioned. Just because you sit there and watch them make YOUR food that YOU should be making yourself, but are too lazy to do, remember that Subway is not a Have it YOUR way business. The employees are following what they are told. And if they are being inspected and a corporporate person sees them give too much of things, they may lose their job. So thank you all for saying people at Subway are incompetent. Whoever actually says this are the ones who are incompetent, thank you. You can't make your own "sandwich" at home, so you go to Subway and then are amazingly sitting here trying to find something else better to do with your life so you harp on and on about whatever you can, especially something as stupid as people not giving you enough lettuce in your salads and some c**p. Would you like to have your lid on the salad, since you probably want ALL the veggies on it? Then deal with it. Thanks.

    Sincerley, A Subway Employee.
