  1. Inexperience, overconfidence about their skill level, some immaturity due to judgement and reasoning not being fully developed at that age

  2. Because teen drivers has less experience driving. And because their brain isn't fully developed yet and they make bad decisions. Also, the teen years are times when many kids experiment with drugs and alcohol and since they can't sit home and do it, they drive around in their car. The new found freedom of driving means that many teens spend more time in their car driving around with friends which causes distractions and can lead to more accidents.

  3. peer pressure. their passengers are encouraging them to race or they just do it themselves. i forgot what it's called in psychology but teens have this thing that they think they are invincible and it wont happen to them. plus the inexperience.

  4. The area of the brain that assesses risk doen't fully develop until about age 25.  Basically, teenagers have immature brains, and don't know it.  Hmmm.  Make that, refuse to face it, in most cases.

  5. yes. they are reckless

  6. JUNE 2008

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among 15- to 20-year olds.

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, 3,490 drivers in this age group died in motor vehicle crashes in 2006 and an additional 272,000 were injured.

Drivers age 15- to 20-years old accounted for 12.9 percent of all the drivers involved in fatal crashes and 16 percent of all the drivers involved in police-reported crashes.

Twenty-five percent of teen drivers killed were intoxicated. In 2006 (latest data available) crashes involving 15 to 17 year olds cost more than $34 billion nationwide, in medical costs, property damage and other costs, according to an AAA analysis.

Among licensed drivers, young people between the ages of 15 and 20 have the highest rate of fatal crashes relative to other age groups, including the elderly. In fact, the risk of being involved in a fatal crash for teens is three times greater than for drivers age 65 to 69.

Immaturity and lack of driving experience are the two main factors leading to the high crash rate among teens.

  7. Teen drivers are more likely to be at risk because theyre show-offs. They dont obey the speed limits because theyre mates are around and overtake whn there is no space. All because they like showing off. this is why teenage drivers are at more of a risk than that of others

  8. They are new to driving and less experienced.

They are always in a hurry.

They often drive with friends in the car which makes for a distraction.

They enjoy the thrills of racing.

    The list goes on......

  9. because the kids w/ sport tuner cars like to race and try and prove they are the best so they can have bragging rights also teens don't think drinking and driving or driving high will affect how they drive to they do it more often, we drive to fast, take corners to fast, don't pay attention, ect.
