  1. They're just jealous because they know you're more awesome than them :)

  2. If I talked to people like that - I would understand why people treated me differently.  Your question is very defensive and abbrasive - if you act like that when you talk to people you are getting what is coming to you.

You catch a lot more with honey....

Everyone has an opinion, if you don't like the opinions, just ignore them.

  3. they are treated like any other minority out there.

  4. Eating meat doesnt play a kind role on the unconcious mind, which is why people get so defensive when you bring up being a vegetarian. Meat eaters tend to lean towards teasing and throwing ignorant comments at vegetarians because they find its a sense of protection of their peace of mind. "Different" is not favored when you've lived your whole life around the comfort of knowing/living one thing. It can come off as threatening. People that have never been around vegetarians dont know how to act around them, and may feel akward and unsure when it comes to the subject of not eating meat (when they still do).

  5. People have been told all their lives that meat is good for them etc. So when some vegetarian/vegan comes along with such a foreign concept, it seems crazy.

I personally used to be laugh at vegetarians, the reason being that all that I had met tried to force the issue on me, leaving a lasting bad impression. I vowed I would always be a steak eater hehe and now I won't touch it.

I have the same problem as you (being at boarding school where a lot of people come from cattle properties) but maybe people prefer vegetarians who can spell the title under which they place themselves.

  6. Some veterans are mean to meat eaters, and the other way around. I personally hate meat and can't stand the smell of it, but I don't necessarily hate people who eat meat. There is really no reason to why people judge vegetarians, they just do.

  7. the consumption of contaminated animal flesh over many generations does cause certain brain and temper abnormalities...

  8. I don't know.  The vegetarians on yahoo! answers are pretty mean toward meat eaters, too.

Personally, I have never experienced any hostility toward my dietary choices.

How old are you?  If you are still a teen, it could be because people in your peer group tend to be cruel to one another anyway.

  9. A lot of people don't understand why you would make a choice not to eat meat.  There's some people that just don't like meat.  My dad is a commercial beef producer, and my brother's wife won't eat red meat because it makes her not feel well, but we all still get along.

  10. what you eat is a very personal thing, i think people get defensive b/c they feel like ur challenging that what thier eating is wrong. Its almost like religion, people are often predjudiced against the minority.

  11. 1. You're the one drawing attention to yourself right now. If you don't make your vegetarianism an issue, then it isn't.

    2. Spelling. Thanks.

  12. first, everyone is different.

second, when people look at you funny, just point out something weird they do..

somebody i know thinks i'm killing myself by being vegan meanwhile all he eats is fried chicken and pork. he's fat as h**l and smokes. (although he's trying to quit smoking). everytime he says "hows the veganism coming, you dead yet?" i look at him and say "hows the fried chicken, YOU dead yet?" this shuts him up until the next time i see him

people judge because they have nothing better to do

and quit frankly, i have to admit i judge others too and i'm pretty sure you do too.. everybody does.

it's just that vegetarianism and veganism are still pretty new to common people

  13. I've been veg*n for over two decades and I have never been treated poorly by anyone for being veg*n.  Most people never have occasion to know about my dietary habits.  Perhaps it's the way you're presenting yourself?
