Why are a "wise man" and a "wise guy" opposites?

Because when ur talking wise guy it usually means Young Guy which really hasnt been around that long and Wise man is usually a man thats been around longer and knows the intelegnce of his surrondings etc.

Duh... I wise man is someone who always shares great nowledge and a wise guy is someone who always has to make uneeded comments or jokes.  This means that wise guy is just figurative languedge

i suppose a "wise man" is self explanatory its a man who use his knowledge  and intelligence wisely to the surroundings he lives in. he may know the ins and outs and how to overcome problems he foresees. A wise guy is probably a younger man who maybe in our society is a person who may thinks he knows it all but actually deep inside he, himself does makes mistakes, but learns from them..
