  1. Actually, most camcorder viewfinders are in color, these days. And yes, I do mean the little eyepiece you look though for shooting the video. Virtually every consumer quality camera on the market in the last 10 years has had a color viewfinder.

If you're looking at older camcorders, or some professional models, you'll find B&W viewfinders. But more recently, these have been going color too, as the technology for higher resolution small LCD displays has improved.

Older models use B&W simply because viewfinders were expensive in those days, either using LCDs or before that small video tubes. These days, CRTs are gone, and the LCDs are pretty cheap and of high quality.

In the professional camcorder case, some still sport B&W viewfinders because of tradition... the previous model did. But the original reason was simple: they could get a much higher resolution viewfinder in B&W than in color. This allows for a sharper manual focusing ability. Today, it's very possible to get really high resolution color viewfinders, but some still swear by B&W.

  2. They're not! Early camcorders had black and white viewfinders but colour has been the norm for years.

Despite of all answerer's one voice, some ignorant negative voted me,God save them who can accept reality

  4. I just checked both my camcorders and their viewfinders show color... same as what is on the LCD panel, though I can't use both at the same time... One I got 3 years ago... the other I just got...

  5. you are wrong...

    i have not heard of a B / W camcorder...

  6. the traditional TV camera viewfinder is B/W because it has much finer resolution than an equivalent size color monitor and the camera person was expected to FOCUS the lens manually. modern consumer camcorders have automatic focus which eliminated the need for B/W viewer, so they are often color now, which makes critical manual focus adjustment nearly impossible.
