Why are all the high ratings least helpful and lowest most helpful?

Every where I go online to search the rating of something, for example, a car review from yahoo! autos. all of the lowest reviews are voted most helpful and the best reviews are voted least helpful. I see this all the time, so why is that?

Your opinion is the opposite to everyone else's!

Because people DO find it helpful to be informed about defects, etc., where it's not quite as 'helpful' to be told the model is good. We want to be warned about a bad buy.

Because the reviews with the highest rating were paid for by the seller, whereas the reviews with the lowest ratings tell the truth about the product.
