I have heard about alot of people recently finishing degrees in subjects such as biochemistry and history and then applying to work at an accountancy firm to become an accountant. Why are these people not just getting jobs to do with their degrees or doing an accounting degree in the first place?

  1. Maybe they can't find jobs in their field of study.

  2. Accounting is a thriving profession with a lot of opportunity relative to some areas like the ones you mention. It's easy to go into business for yourself as a CPA with a bit of experience, which is tougher to do in History or Biochem

  3. They think accounting job is easy. Look, where on earth can you find such a job? Another reason is that their high school result sucks, that's why they can't study accounting. So they studied history and biochemistry. I bet they can't find a job in the accounting firm. They don't even have the qualification, who on earth will hire them? They must have an accounting degree, with 3 years of relevant experience plus a CA or CPA to even get into the interview room!
