On the ESPN forums and reading through comments from americans about LeBron playing in Europe and about how superior the US team is to European teams despite the fact that the US basketball team struggled to beat australia and would have been destroyed by a team like Spain.

Also there was a vote on the ESPN site about who the top PGA contenders were and despite Phil Mickleson having an absolutely pathetic record in Majors he had 4x the votes Harrington has and Jim Furyk was also ranked ahead of Harrington. WTF is that about?

Is the country really that insular and unknowledgeable about sports outside of the US?

  1. First Phil Mickelson is better then Harrington.  Tiger Wood is the best golpher in the world. It's not about arrogant.  It's about the truth.  it seems that you can't handle the truth.

Secondly US basketball is still the best in the world.  I like to see any team in Europe play any team in the NBA.  This all-star competition is a joke.  Most NBA player doesn't even want to play in the Olympic.  But if you ask any of them if they want to play in the NBA Final, they all will say yes.  Players don't work hard to get to the Olympic.  They work hard to get to the playoff.  Playing in the Olympic is like vacation for these millionaires.

I like to see you put Spain against Celtics or Lakers or Phoenix or even Warriors in a 7 game match.

  2. Ignorance is bliss....add racism add strip mall culture add the rise of fear culture.....The re-birth of the Third reich upon us.

  3. Very little international sport is carried in the U.S.  While we do have professional soccer, it's isololated to major population centers.  Most of the country could not care less.  We don't like F1 racing as we find it boring.  As for golf, the only time we look at Eurpoean players much are during the British Open and the Ryder Cup.  There is no coverage of European basketball leagues, etc.  So, yes it is insular.  Most people feel that the best European basketball players are already playing in the NBA.

    Just the way it is.

  4. i dont know

  5. I PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. You shouldn't base your judgments on what you read on message boards. People tend to be a lot more obnoxious and arrogant when they are hiding behind a computer screen. I think most fans in the US are still trying to adjust to the fact the rest of the world is catching up to us in basketball. But, you can't deny the US team has the greatest compilation of talent in the games. And it's not even really a close call. But, that doesn't always translate to success or automatic victories. Basketball is a TEAM game, and sometimes having so many stars on one team can actually be a detriment. You need role players, and guys willing to do the dirty work. Plus International teams have been playing together with the same players for years. They have all grown up together and know each others games. This is a huge advantage. Not to mention the international game is officiated and played much differently than the NBA. It is much more perimeter oriented.

As for golf, you are basing this off a stupid poll on an US website. Most people who answer these polls simply select the name of the player they recognize. Mickelson is the most famous golfer in the US outside of Woods. You fail to recognize that Mickelson is roughly the same age as Harrington and has 3 major titles to Harrington's 2. Plus Mickelson is #2 in the world rankings and Harrington is #3. Mickelson has finsished 2nd in majors numerous times. Harrington's next best finishes are 5th. So, while Harrington is a an excellent golfer, he has failed to win a major on American soil. Maybe you should do some research before insulting an entire nation of sports fans.

  7. just as other countries are arrogant about their national sports. And spain did lose to the 2004 us team that was worse than this one. Just because a team struggles against a lesser team like australia doesn't mean that they will lose to a good team, as the celtics struggled against the hawks and cavs but still won the title. You just can't predict what will happen in the next game based on previous games.

  8. if u r british..... u shud go a die. or let some1 shoot u.

the brits more stuck up and cocky about how good they r.

  9. delusions of grandeur. i mean you. not U.S. (haha... get it? because it means "us" and U.S.

i mean you guys like dry humor right?

get it?! so how are your crooked teeth holding up? do you still have tea time? is vegemite as gross as it looks? how's the queen looking these days? do all of your women over there have fat ankles?

see i can be stereotypical too.
