  1. Why are you so ignorant of a simple definition?!!

ATHEIST -  someone who does not believe in a God – any God – not just the Christian one.  But that does not mean they do not hold strong moral or religious beliefs!  They can follow any religion that does not have a god and there are a lot of those!!

But your ignorance is of no surprise!!

Science has shown atheists have a higher intelligence than people with a strong religious faith. The difference is 5.8 points according to findings in developmental psychology!!!

More members of the "intellectual elite" considered themselves atheists than the national average.

Only 7 percent of members of the American National Academy of Sciences believed in God. Whilst only 3.3 percent believed in God in the UK’s Royal Society.

Several Gallup poll studies of the general population have shown that those with higher IQ’s tend not to believe in God."

Evolution in action with Christians getting left behind like the monkeys and apes before them!!!

  2. I wonder if someone that chooses not to believe in a higher power and does choose to visit a Spiritual "area" may indeed be "searching" for something that resonates within their soul - whether this is a conscious or sub-conscious action.

  3. A favorite of mine.  To test your faith.

  4. My fellow atheists above have mostly answered your question, so I'll just add that...

Just because we don't believe in God doesn't mean we believe in NOTHING, that's a very small minded, uneducated view.

  5. SERIOUSLY???

    *sigh*

Atheists visit the "R&S" section because...

We know many of the answers.

    We're interested in the topics.

    We've made friends here.

And of course, when we try to discuss our metaphysical perspectives in the "Cats" section, they tell us to scram.

(Besides, I usually have nothing better to do)

    -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --

    Also, a slight correction:

Atheism ≠ "belief in nothing". Atheism = lack of belief in god(s). There are plenty of atheists who believe in the "spiritual" &/or "supernatural". See: Buddhism & Jainism.

  6. A stone believes in nothing.

This question is the most redundant YA question of all time.

  7. Because they have sold their souls to the devil himself, and get a kick out of picking away at the core beliefs of good, child-rearin', dinner-cookin', husband-mindin', church-hat wearin' women like us. They should stop questioning Christianity and rely solely on faith, like all the other important thinkers in history.

    You iz in my prayerzz.

  8. Of course I believe in things, just not in your religion.

  9. Again its Agnostic people and that is one good question. I say that they are just insecure and maybe they do believe deep down inside they just want to find proof for a reason to believe in Him.

  10. *drink*

  11. 1. Because the constitutions of seven states--Arkansas, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Texas--contain provisions prohibiting atheists from holding public office or testifying in court.

    2. Atheist boys cannot be members of the Boy Scouts even though the Boy Scouts commonly receive public funds and special consideration in the use of public lands.

    3. Politicians like President Bush Sr. feel free to say: "No, I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God."

    4. "Blue laws" in many states restrict what can be sold on Sundays based on religious considerations.

    5. The phrase "under God" was added to the Pledge of Allegiance in 1954.

    6. The phrase "In god we trust" was added to U.S. coins in 1864 and to dollar bills in 1957.

    7. The U.S. was not founded as a Christian nation, yet I see some Christians seriously attempting to make it so.

    8. Those professing religious beliefs are attempting to control what is taught in public schools so as to conform to, or at least not conflict with, their dogma. They seek, for instance, to have creationism or intelligent design passed off as science in public schools.

    9. National, state, and local policy decisions are being decided based not on rational thought and discourse, but religious belief and fervor.

    10. Fanatics are killing people in the name of religion.

    11. Atheists are the least trusted minority in the U.S. simply because they have no belief in god(s).

  12. "Believe in nothing" is an incomplete conception. Even atheism is a kind of religion to the atheists. Visiting 'Religion & Spirituality' page by the atheists is okay---anyone can visit any page. There are two things may be: Either to teach the theists or to learn from the theists. Yahoo! Q/A probably didn't arrange this page for worshiping, am I right?

  13. Because of the increasing harm that religion does to society.

Even though I don't believe any gods exist, religion still affects me.  Religion still spreads its intolerance, ignorance, oppression, and hate.  I don't think that society can progress much further if we keep clinging on to our old superstitious beliefs.

  14. I have asked that myself, but you have to admit that this place wouldn't be nearly as exciting without them.

  15. They believe in an idea and believe that idea carries more value than that of Religion.

Which is inherently hypocritical, so you are correct in your leading question.

  16. To correct your grammar.

Edit: thanks for that; although i've already corrected it before you'd notice (i think) (not that it is an argument)

    Heres my token of appreciation

Why do Atheists still visit the Religion and Spirituality section if they don't believe in God

*Note: i didn't wrote believe in nothing because your misinterpreting the term (*also don't argue if you say nothing=not believing in God; grammar is also a part of logic)

And your sentence structure is alike I.R baboon's(cartoon "I AM Weasel") way of speaking in terms of grammar

  17. Because atheists have nothing and they want to share it with us.

  18. Belief in nothing is still a religious /spiritual view . Why do we antagonize each other ?

  19. Because maybe they really are searching for the truth but can't seem to admit it - I hope.

  20. Because, i can

Religious fundies like you, amuse me

  21. This question has been asked hundreds of times. So many of you believers are so threatened by the presence of people who don't hold your beliefs. It's crystal clear that you really are aware that your beliefs are just plain silly, and it really bothers you to have that fact pointed out. Why in the world do you want to live with that kind of thinly veiled dishonesty?

    We don't "believe in nothing".

We simply don't believe what you believe about nonexistent "gods".

As for why we're here, R&S is a forum for asking and answering questions about religion and spirituality. If there were no atheists here, there'd be practically no-one capable of answering such questions, since believers know very little about religion and spirituality.

    You're welcome.

  22. *drink*

    Nothing doesn't exist.

    ~

  23. I like blueberries.

  24. Everyone believes in something.  Atheists believe that God doesn't exist so that they are free to live their lives as they wish.

  25. Atheism is a religion by definition, and as determined by the supreme court.  Why would only religious folk visit this section anyway?

PS: It's "It's" not "Its".  It's "spelled" not "spelt". (Don't nitpick, it detracts from the point) :-)

    *HUGZ*

PS:  You may not believe in God, but that's okay, GOD still believes in Y0U!  :O)

  26. Ahem, those would be "Nihilists". Atheist simply do not believe in the supernatural.

And for the love of frickin god, this has been done to death. Search these things before you post them. Wasting perfectly good points, my goodness.

  27. listen, theres a search bar beneath ansewers, how about you use it you creationist low intelect inferior being

  28. Yeah, blueberries arnt that bad ay

  29. I believe in Hope, doing good, and respecting and loving my parents.

What I don't believe is in a God, nothing more or less.

    -

Besides that, the last time we left religion alone, the Dark ages, the Crusades, the Witch Trials, and the Holy Wars happen.

We aren't going to let those things happen again.

  30. To keep you theists under control

  31. Read a couple of the answers in the questions that have the word "God" in it and you'll know why we're here.

I bet if you visited the Science section you could find a couple religious people.
