Why are australia's colors in the olympics yellow and green when its flag colors are red white and blue? ?

...just wondering because all the different types of suits the australian Olympians wear (in any sport) do not contain their flag colors, where most countries stick to there flag colors to make up their jerseys..

Traditionally, the nation colours come from the flag of the nation. however due to our fierce rivalry with the poms we decided to change our colours (as the australian and british flags have the same colour - red,white and blue) to something different. the green and gold symbolizes the australian landscape and also the wattle (the australian floral emblem

    The Netherlands are another who do the same.

    Their sporting colour is orange, which isn't on their flag either.
