Why are baby snakes wet when their hatching from their egg?

  1. As petsnake said the egg is full of fluids, this is to protect and cushion the embryo within, so obviously when it comes time to hatch the snake is going to be wet from these fluids.

    This is how a reptile egg is structured -

    - shell

    - chorion (first layer of membrane that assists in gas exchange)

    - allantois (sac-like structure that grows out of the digestive tract of the embryo, functions in gas exchange and collects metabolic wastes from the embryo)

    - amnion (this is the membrane in which the fluid and embyro are held)

    - yolk sac


  2. Because the egg is full of fluids that help protect and provide nutrients for the developing snake
