Why are bacterial spores not considered to be true reproductive bodies like the spores of yeasts and molds?

  1. A bacterial spore is a sort of hibernation for a bacterial cell while conditions are less than ideal.  When conditions improve, the same cell emerges from the spore rather than a daughter cell.
