  1. Well they certainly wouldn't be called "dugouts" anymore, that's for sure!

Good question though, I've wondered that myself and haven't gotten around to looking it up.

  2. A main reason is so its eaiser pto get to the clubhouse/lockeroom.

  3. Not all dugouts are below ground level, but it's mainly to prevent players from getting in the way of specators when they are up & walking around in the dugout.

  4. I suppose extra protection for the players.  There are always line-drives hit, so if the dugout(which is very close to the plate) was below field level, than it would be safer for the players.

Also, i mite be better for the stadium cuz a few more seats above the dugout can be fitted. : )

  5. Dugouts are dug(dig→dug→dug) out from ground level.

That's why they are called dugouts.

  6. It makes it easier for fans to see the game and it can help keep it a little cooler on a hot day.

  7. so the players aren't in the way of fans behind them.  its all about fitting more seats in the park

  8. SO they don't block the spectators' view behind them.
