Why are birds not attacked by an electric shock when they rest on an electric cable?

  1. 2 reasons:

    1. The cables are insulated

    2. As the birds aren't positive or negative they don't interfere with the flow of electricity and the electricity takes the shortest route which is still the wire


  2. The lines are normally insulated.  The birds are not grounded, not making a complete circuit.  There are cases of large birds that are electrocuted by touching both sets of wires.  In any case, it is NOT recommended that anyone climb or hang on those overhead wires.

  5. A bird or other living object is electrocuted only when current passes through it,this does not happen with insulated wires ,with non -insulated wires current will pass through an object that provides a circuit by touching both wires .
