Why are black American's usually Democrats?

Question

Seems to me like doing the same thing year after year and expecting results would indicate that something needs to change. But that's not the case with this case of demographics. Can someone tell me why this is the case?

Wow, the racism on these boards are over the top.  That being said, I'm black and a democrat.  I agree with most of the democrats policies and programs to help people.  I do not get welfare, I work full time, I am educated and believe in helping others (imagine that).  This world is NOT going to get better if we do not find a way to pull up the downtrodden.  When will people get that?

There are more poor white American than poor black Americans, some of you need to get your facts straight before you start up with your hate-speech.

They know who gives them free hand-outs.  The funny thing is the vast majority of them would vote for a Republican if only he was black.

Democrats get the minority and low income votes, especially in big city areas.   It's all about who gives out the most free handouts. Democrats are big supporters of stealing from anyone successful (middle class and up) and giving it out to the lower incomes. Republicans focus more on trickle-down economics where you create an environment for successful businesses that will generate jobs and increase income across the board.

No offense intended.. it's simply reality. I think much less of the US is truly liberal than liberals realize. Without the welfare votes, Democrats wouldn't fare too well in most elections.  Again, it's simply the truth based on the consistent voting results across decades of history.

Because blacks throughout the years have been falsely led to belive that the republicans are the evil white man party who doesn't care about minorities.  It doesn't matter that the republicans are the only party to appoint high ranking black officials like Colin Powell, Rice and Clarence Thomas. It doesn't matter that the republicans signed all of those civil rights laws into existance and most democrats were against it.

The democrats cater to the black community.  The DNC buys their vote with social programs and handouts...in return they vote democratic in most elections except ones with a black candidate...This principle works well in local elections but it does not work well in the general election...

Mostly because the Republican party doesn't address the issues that affect and effect African-Americans.  Then you also have a lot of Republicans that make racist statements year after year (even though, there are a lot of racist Dems also)...I think mainly because the Republican party seems to be a party for the wealthiest Americans (and a lot of African-Americans, even the ones with wealth, hate to see people treated like c**p for lack of wealth) and do not like to see the country change even if the change means improvement.
