Question:

Why are black people so good at running?

I am a former runner at a college camp and the answer is genetics. Many of the arguments here are by people who are sitting in their air conditioned rooms and think they know something about sports when they are actually posers. Fast twitch muscle fibers has nothing to do with it! Are you kidding me? Do you even really know what myosin is? Black people are good distance runners and sprinters with disportionate amounts of either fast twitch for sprinting and slow twitch for distance running. Blacks dominate both sprinting and long distance e.g. USA, JAMAICA and KENYA so blacks dont have more fast twitch fibers. White people have proportionally stronger upper bodies. There is very little social argument to this. The World is becoming too PC. 100 years ago people based athletes totally on race and now it is the extreme opposite. The reality is what you see--Black people are genetically better runners.

  1. It does appear that way, longer legs and stronger leg muscles probably contribute too.

  2. I know what myosin is, and, yes, the world is too PC, but your "question" is still racist and of dubious scientific merit. There are speedy white people and plodding black people. Maybe you should take up phrenology.

  3. WTF is this? Ignorant redneck central?

Please all get a life and an encyclopedia!

  4. same reason cheetah run faster than Human. black people run alot in Afreeca to hunt down the animal food.

  5. I don't need to know the technical details or from a former runner to know black people are good at pretty much everything in sports.

  6. I don't recall exactly what my biological psychology professor said, but there definitely ARE differences. What's sad is, that it isn't openly discussed even to this day because of defensiveness on the side of SOME of the black population. And even here, I see a lack of maturity when it comes to answering this question. Most of you decided to leave a negative answer that didn't really answer the question. It is a valid question, although I don't know the motivation for it.

I didn't find much out there, but of what I found, here is something interesting..."Beneath Black skin there is more muscle and less fat. White athletes have more fat and less muscle. Research was carried out by the Copanhagen Institute of Sports Sciences on Kenyans from the Kalenjin trube of the Great Rift valley. It shows different genetics that help them store more oxygen in the body and lessen fatigue. This helped them to cope with hot conditons at high altitudes.".

  7. Actually, african americans possess an extra muscle located towards the back of the calf that makes them better at jumps, especially vertical and speed.

  8. they just are...

its probably a common gene long long long back

  9. This is not a question, but some lame rant.

  10. Lame Lame Lame Lame

  11. I disagree.  It's not nature (genetics), it's nurture (environment).  Athletes from any nation or will tend to do better at a given sport or activity when it's a highly valued and heavily rewarded activity where they live.  In Kenya, long distance running is treated with the same awe and respect that we Americans show to pro basketball or baseball.  In Jamaica, sprinting has that kind of celebrity status.  In Pakistan, it's bad minton.  Countries that support a sport like that attract a larger pool of athletes and coaches, so there's more "cream" to rise to the top, so to speak.

  12. I heard that they have denser muscle mass so it's better for them to run.

that's why you almost never see them as swimmers, because it's harder to float and glide through the water.

Although many are good at swimming, such as Cullen Jones, and others....
