I first thought it might've had a hole in it and been near some water and soaked it up. Then I buy another....then another in different locations and they are ALWAYS moist. Why is that??

  1. These are treated with the antibacterial liquids to kill any bacteria. This prevents the foul odour. Probably the technique used for applying the antibacterial agent involves dipping the pads or spraying the pads with the antibacterial liquid and then packing them.

Also it is observed that the totally dry pad gives away the fibres from the coarser side easily when compared to wet pad.

The description of 3M's Blue Scotch Brite Pad goes like this :

This all-purpose scrubber is designed for tough kitchen cleaning without scratching. It is ideal for surfaces such as Silvertone, Telfon, Corningware cookware and dishes, and also safe for ceramic stove tops. Unique, patented 3M antibacterial technology kills odor-causing bacteria in the sponge. The blue fiber side is a fast, effective, safe cleaner while the sponge side wipes clean. Quickly cleans the toughest burnt-on, dried-on foods, from pots and pans, yet safe for nonstick cookware without scratching.

  2. The ones that are wet when you buy them have soap added.  The ones that a dry when you buy them do not have soap added.

  3. they all have a soap in them...so it feels wet

  4. To keep a uniform shape.  Did you ever see a dried out sponge?  Not very marketable.

  5. There is nothing wrong with your sponges!  They keep sponges moist in the package because the way sponges are made when they dry up it becomes hardened and difficult to use so they premoisten them.
