Why are boot camp graduates limited to a 50 mile radius for furloughs??

If they go AWOL I doubt they will stay within the 50 mile radius.  The concern would be getting back form were they are.  In basic more than likely you are not familiar with the area.  They have to have a limit so nobody could say, "I didn't know I couldn't go that far".

So you can't go AWOL and sneak away to canada or somewhere.

because they have a curfew as well and to minimize the possibility of NOT getting back in time, they keep them close by.
